ESI Registration

ESI stands for Employee’s State Insurance which is managed by Employee’s State Insurance Corporation, an autonomous body under the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India. The scheme provides full medical cover to the employee registered under the ESI Act, 1948 during the period of his incapacity, restoration of his health and working capacity. This scheme also provides a medical claim to his/her family members.

Who Requires ESIC Registration

ESIC Registration is mandatory for every factory or establishment having more than 10 or more employees (in some states it is 20 employees) who have a maximum salary of INR 15,000 per month.

The penalty in Case of Failure to Get ESI Registration And ESI Returns

In case an employer fails to get an ESIC employer registration online or in filing ESI returns, he shall be liable for a fine of Rs.10,000.

Benefits of ESIC Registration

There are many benefits of registration under this scheme. Some of them are:

  • Sickness benefits at the rate of 70% ( in the form of salary), in case of any certified illness and which lasts for more than 91 days in a year.
  • Medical benefits to an employee and his family members.
  • Maternity Benefit to women who pregnant (paid leaves).
  • If the death of an employee happens while on work – 90% of the salary is given to his dependents every month after his death.
  • Same as the above in case of disability of an employee.
  • Funeral expenses.
  • Old age care medical expenses.
